CUMSA Ball 2016: The Great Gatsby

“Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter — tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther…”

And that’s how you should be in anticipation of our Ball. In a decadent admixture of Manhattan extravagance, intrigue, and glitter, this year’s CUMSA Ball, themed “The Great Gatsby”, transports you back into the Roaring 20s! We provide the dinner, drinks and entertainment, you supply the carefree spirit!

The dress code is black tie, but come dressed up as your favourite “The Great Gatsby” character. Be the aloof Gatsby or the investigative Nick; emulate the carefree manner of Daisy or harsh stiffness of Jordan — or invent your own 20’s character.

Timeline of event
6.30pm – start of pre-dinner drinks
7.00pm – start of dinner
Until midnight – the party that “never killed nobody”

Tickets are

  • £28 (CUMSA members),
  • £32 (CUMaS members),
  • £36 (others)

for dinner, wine, and entertainment, and go on sale this weekend.

This year, we will have 12 tables of 10 people: sign up individually first, and then email your preferred table allocations to Damien at, stating the full names of those at your table. This should be done as soon as you have your entourage sorted out, and latest by 6th Feb to facilitate preparations. We will try our best to give everyone their preferred allocations.

Performances are welcome! If you wish to perform (either individually or as a group), drop Damien an email using the above address as soon as possible.

Get ready to be “within and without, simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life”!
