CUMSA Ski Trip

This December, enjoy a full week of skiing with CUMSA as we head up to Val d’Isère, a fantastic resort right in the heart of the Espace Killy ski area of the French Alps! :) This will be from the afternoon of 10th December 2016 (Saturday) to the afternoon of 17th December 2016 (Saturday), with 6.5 days of skiing starting Sunday morning.

The standard package will cost £370, which includes 12 hours of ski lessons(including an extra half-day for beginners), 6.5 days equipment hire (boots, skis & poles OR snowboard & boots), 6.5 days lift pass, 7 nights accommodation, full board (buffet-style every meal guys), and evening entertainment. The UCPA in Val d’Isere is in the heart of town, so there will be plenty to do for après-ski – visiting the local bars and nightclubs, walking around, or even taking a dip in the swimming pool nearby (for free)! This is probably one of the cheapest and best deals to get around if you have ever wanted to try skiing or snowboarding :)

As you may have noticed, there is no travel included in the price. There are several ways to reach Val d’Isere:
1. Take the London Coach from London Victoria all the way to the resort, and all the way back the following Saturday. This will take about 20+ hours.
2. Fly into Geneva airport and take the Shared Transfer to and fro the resort (~4-4.5 hours).
3. Fly into Grenoble airport and take the Shared Transfer to and fro the resort (~3h45min).
4. Arrange your own travel plans (train, taxi, walk, whatever).

Please check the link below for more details about the transfer options and the exact timings. In my opinion, I would recommend flying in, since you can catch a good night’s sleep instead of roughing it out on the coach. It also gives you the flexibility of travelling anywhere in Europe first and then flying straight in :)

To find out more details about the resort and the trip itself, please follow this link: Alternatively, just drop me a message!

For those avid skiers who are thinking of going for the Varsity Trip before that, just a heads up that it will be in Val Thorens again this year! From experience, it is possible to do both trips with a little bit of planning, especially since the skiing for VT ends on a Friday, giving you a rest/travel day on Saturday :) If you have any questions about this, or if you are deciding which one to go, do get in touch!

On a final note, Action Outdoors, our partner company, requires that everyone must have adequate Winter Sports Travel Insurance cover. Action Outdoors have partnered with ERV and are offering a 15% discount, so you can choose this option (link accessible after paying the deposit – save it). Alternatively, you can find your own or ask around for other options :)

Do not worry if you have never skied before in your life or if you are a seasoned skier; Val d’Isère is a resort known for its varied terrain and early season snow, so there will definitely be something for everyone! Places will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis, so hope to see those sign ups coming in!! :)

CUMSA Garden Party

Summer is coming – and the fun comes with it! Seeking a great time in the sun now that all the hard work is done? Join us for a magical adventure at this year’s CUMSA Garden Party at the gorgeous Pembroke Gardens!

Look forward to catching up with CUMSA friends, gobbling down wizarding treats, trying your hand at our giant games or Quidditch Pong. Perhaps you could help yourself to a healthy serving at the chocolate fountain – we hear it counteracts the chilling, cold effect produced by contact with the Tripos. Or you could choose to lounge around with a complimentary serving of popcorn or candy floss. Wash it all down with magical home-made Butterbeer or, if you would prefer more muggle-like intoxication, Pimm’s! Bewitch your friends with Polaroids and props from the non-Muggle world. The magic doesn’t stop there – more surprises will be revealed closer to the event!

All graduating CUMSA members who will no longer be students of the University at the end of this academic year, or are medics in their third year, can get tickets free of charge. (However, they are still required to sign up for a ticket; while stocks last!)

Date: 10th June 2016
Time: 3pm to 6pm
Venue: Pembroke College

Ticket prices:
£0 (Graduating / 3rd year medics CUMSA member)
£9 (CUMSA member)
