[Events] 1. CUMSA Sports Updates

CUMSA has rolled out a new loan system for the sports equipment that we have! The current status of the equipment can be viewed at this link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/132msAboNw4vqf0cJd_BSQ4FnqyogFkJWd5t8pADtNGM/edit#gid=0.

The loan period will be for an entire term, unless someone else requests for the item. Please get in touch Christiane if you would like to (1) borrow an item, (2) return an item, (3) pass the item to someone else, (4) replace a lost/damaged item, (5) request for new items to be added to the CUMSA sports inventory (subject to approval). Please note that whoever’s name is on the sheet will be held responsible for the item.

Additionally, the Cambridge Chinese Society is considering organising an Asian indoor football tournament in Lent and has invited CUMSA to send in a team. Dates have not been finalised but do get in touch with Christiane if you are interested.

[Events] 2. Hosts for R&T Mooters

CUMSA will be organising the Rajah&Tann-UK Moot in Cambridge on 4-5 February 2017. We will have mooters travelling down from various universities across the UK for the weekend. These mooters will require shelter and a special kind of warmth you can only receive from the kindness of a stranger.

This is an appeal to anyone in CUMSA who might be willing to open their doors to host a mooter on the night of the 4th! A very low level of commitment is required; we will take care of their food, and we only need your floor space. Do sign up at the following link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScInr5zu3VQk8Y3mmWeFJXNm-T60cAvMvlEc95htUFWb3HieQ/viewform?c=0&w=1

If you’re an law student from any batch, and keen to organise this, please contact Michelle at president@cumsa.org. You may sign up in twos or threes. We have collated details from the past committees, and will brief you accordingly.

1. Extraordinary General Meeting 2016
2. Asian Food Festival 2017

[Events] 1. Extraordinary General Meeting 2016

The Extraordinary General Meeting will be held this Saturday to elect the Graduate Representative and to vote on the proposed constitutional amendments. All members are welcome to attend.

Date: 19 November 2016 (Saturday)
Time: 1.30pm – 2.30pm
Venue: Christ’s College, Yusuf Hamied Theatre

We have received one submission for the position of Graduate Representative. As such, all members are entitled to vote for either the sole candidate, or to re-open nominations (RON):
Graduate Representative
Jasmine Alexis Doo
RON

One constitutional amendment was proposed by Lim Chia Wei. Please see the attached documents for Jasmine’s manifesto and Chia Wei’s proposition.

There are 3 ways by which you may vote:
(1) Online voting: you may cast your votes online. The link for voting for the Graduate representative is https://www.vote.cusu.cam.ac.uk/cumsa/16-17/gradrep/. The link for voting on the constitutional amendment is https://www.vote.cusu.cam.ac.uk/cumsa/16-17/amendment/. Online voting opens at 1200h today (16th November) and will close at 1200h on 19th November.

(2) Voting by proxy: you may send your votes to Michelle Lim in writing or via e-mail at president@cumsa.org. This has to be done by 2359h on 18th November. Alternatively, you may nominate someone to cast a pen-and-paper vote for you at the EGM. To do this, please inform Bridget Zhang at secretary@cumsa.org by 2359h on 18th November, failing which your vote will not be valid.

(3) Pen-and-paper voting at the EGM. You may only vote in this manner if you did not vote via proxy or online voting.

The voting system for the Graduate Representative is a Single Vote Transferable System. This means that:
– Re-Open Nominations (RON) is treated as a candidate.
– In your vote, you will have to rank your options (including RON) in order of preference.
– The candidate is elected if she ranks above RON. Otherwise, all positions below RON are still vacant and a by-election will be called.

In the event of an unfilled seat, a by-election may be held on the same day as the EGM. If the by-election cannot be concluded on the same day as the EGM for whatever reason, a further backup date will be announced soon after the EGM.

We look forward to seeing you at the EGM!
